Can we chat about reputations for a minute? Is a reputation something we intentionally create, or is it something that happens to us?
What if I said you could be in charge of both. And if your buzzy press releases and flowing content aren’t quite getting you there, keep reading!
Actively building a memorable and trusted personal or business brand – an Everlasting Brand – requires intentional actions and brand communications that reflect our audience’s values.
The absence of both opens a vacuum that allows others to define the brand’s reputation for us. 2020 hasn’t been particularly kind to brands who have valued to demonstrate their values through actions.
Here are 8 tips for building and protecting a positive reputation that is in line with who you and your company are and who you want to bond with:
✔️ Know your values and make sure your actions in public and the office advance them.
✔️ Champion a mission and idea that is bigger than the product and service you provide.
✔️ Show up and tell your story often so that people know who you are and what beliefs you hold.
✔️ Proactively prepare for undesirable events by having a crisis management and communications plan ready to go.
✔️ Know your weaknesses and shortcomings. Share how you’re working to overcome them. After all, brands are run by humans too.
✔️ Own problems, solve them, and then communicate how you made them right.
✔️ When it comes to social capital, make more deposits than withdrawals.
✔️ Relentlessly serve your biggest fans and those with positive perceptions of you.
Alright, deep breath! If that seems like a lot to navigate, you don’t have to go it alone. Drop me a DM, and I’d love to guide you through the process of creating an Everlasting Brand that your audience knows and loves.
